The Brighouse and Rastrick Band is without a doubt the best and most certainly consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. The people of the villages of Brighouse and Rastrick made donations to establish the band in the late nineteenth century. Today it still continues to be supported through public subscriptions and its own fund raising efforts. Traditionally its amateur members would pride themselves on being financially independent, yet are still highly regarded as one of the ‘elite’ on both contest and concert platform.

Enfield Citadel Band was founded in Tottenham, north London, in 1892, and soon established a reputation as one of the Salvation Army’s leading musical groups. In 1972, with the merging of two Salvation Army corps, the band moved to Enfield, on the outskirts of north London, and assumed its present title. There, as before, the band’s principal purpose has remained - to proclaim the Gospel message within the corps, in open-air activities and in visits to hospitals etc. in the same way as Salvation Army bands throughout the world.

[tag]The Chicago Staff Band[/tag] is [tag]The Salvation Army[/tag]’s principal concert band of the midwest. Its innovative music and quality performances are the result of dedication and effort of its band members who volunteer their many hours of service without remuneration.
Of the band’s members, approximately one-third are laymen of various occupations and students and two-thirds are Salvation Army officers (ordained ministers) and employees, serving in various administrative and service-oriented positions within the Army’s network of metropolitan Chicago facilities and programs.
All of these individuals have at least three things in common: a love and desire to serve God, commitment to the membership and ministry of the Salvation Army, and musical talent that is willingly shared in groups such as the Chicago Staff Band.

Under the names of Munn and Felton, G.U.S. (Footwear), Rigid Containers Group, Travelsphere Holidays Band and now the GUS Band, the sound that once originated from Kettering has rung throughout Britain, Europe and America in concert halls, on television, radio and in the recording studio. Thousands have applauded the band in concert, and the Midlanders have dented the Northern pride of Yorkshire and Lancashire, traditionally the home of brass bands, by winning six national titles, the British Open Championship twice and being proclaimed World Champions in 1971.

The Mill Creek Colliery Brass Band had its beginnings in 1995, and played its first performance in 1996. Brought together by Scott Whetham, Principal Tuba with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the band seeks to promote the British brass band tradition in Western Canada, employing all the traditional instruments of that ensemble.
The name of the band pays homage to the historical connection between 19th century working class Northern England, and the brass bands which flourished during that time. The name also refers to a prominent ravine area in Edmonton, itself the site of important coal mining activity in the early days.

Now in its twenty-second year, the Brass Band of Columbus (the BBC) exists as a self-supporting community band. The band’s instrumentation is brass and percussion only, following the tradition of British brass bands. Membership of this 45 piece band includes thirty active or retired music educators and a wide range of other professions. The BBC was founded in 1984 by Dr. Paul Droste (pictured right), Emeritus Professor of Music at The Ohio State University and former director of the OSU Marching Band. After serving as co-interim directors since Dr. Droste’s retirement in December 2004, Tim Jameson was selected as the Director in July 2005.
