World of Brass update - September 2006
In Birmingham, one of our best sellers is sure to be the Double DVD of Highlights from the 2006 European Brass Band Contest. As well as all the major test piece performances, we have been able to include the whole of the B Section programme played by the sensational Brass Band OberOsterreich. Look out too for some fancy footwork from Black Dyke Band’s Richard Marshall and John Doyle in the gala concert! The Double CD w as launched last month and, as the track lists of the CD and DVD differ, continues to sell strongly. The CD and DVD combined serve to give you an almost complete record of the major performances during that weekend in Belfast.
The Heaton Collection has been a major sales success as well as being a recording triumph, bringing together Black Dyke Band and The International Staff Band of The Salvation Army in a pioneering collaboration. We are pleased to launch the final instalment of The Heaton Collection with the launch of Volume 4 played by Black Dyke Band with guest cornet soloist Martin Winter. The current National Champions, Leyland Band, continue to capitalise on that accolade by launching By Arrangement with which they celebrate sixty years of quality music making.
2006 is also a special year for Wingates Band as they celebrate the 100th anniversary of their ‘double’ of winning what we now know as the British Open and National Brass Band Championships in the same year. Incidentally, they went on to repeat the feat in 1907 too! Their latest CD release is Nyman Brass, an exciting recording of arrangements of music originally written by Michael Nyman. The arrangements were made with the complete blessing of the composer who even attended one of the recording sessions. The official launch date of this CD is not for another ten days but World of Brass have been given the exclusive opportunity of making it available to brass band audiences ahead of time.
Since our last update, The Salvation Army Gospel Arts Concert 2006 - Love So Amazing CD/DVD DualDisc has been received into stock. The concert can be seen and heard in its entirety and includes The International Staff Band playing Kenneth Downie’s St Magnus. The brass soloist on the night was Michael Baker from Montclair Citadel Band, New York. Michael gave a sparkling rendition of Standing on the Promises which, along with the other four solos with brass band accompaniment in the Philip Smith Signature Series, is now available on the website.
